Golden Horde heading for Haydock

Trainer Clive Cox says the next “logical step” for Golden Horde is to
head to Haydock for The Sprint Cup in September.

Golden Horde, who picked up victories at Windsor and Goodwood as a juvenile
last season, made the perfect start to his three-year-old career when winning
the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in June.

The chestnut colt was third in his next start at Newmarket in the Darley July
Cup Stakes before then finishing fifth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at
Deauville, behind Charlie Appleby’s champion Space Blues.

Connections are now deliberating where to send Golden Horde next and, according
to Cox, a trip to Merseyside for the Haydock Sprint Cup is next up on the
agenda.

“The Sprint Cup at Haydock would be a logical step to take from here, if
all is well in the meantime,” he was quoted as saying by Sportinglife.
“He has come back really well from his run in France. He is still only a
baby in comparison to those he was up against in the Maurice de Gheest.

“As a three-year-old, he is taking his racing really well, and I’m happy
with him. He travelled really kindly in the Maurice de Gheest, but I think the
last 100 yards was just a step too far after racing competitively
throughout.”
