It was back down to earth with a bang yesterday as I endured
a frustrating day tipping. Custodian stumbled out of the stalls and socially
distanced himself up the middle of the track before fading and Swift Verdict
showed plenty of promise but was shuffled wide turning in which cost us backers
some place money.
These
sort of results are to be expected though as we are taking horses’ fitness at
face value and it’s not that easy given the current situation.
We will
try again today however and both my selections run at Kempton. First up is GRIGGY for the shrewd Sean Curran yard.
He has improved no end through the winter and was in fine fettle before the
lockdown. Adam Kirby has been booked to ride and he has a pretty decent record
for Curran when they have teamed up in the past 12 months. I do rate Spirited
Guest but with the selection drawn 4 I hope Kirby can pinch the rail or at
least sit handy and dictate matters in the straight. He’s a shorty but he could
be a goody.
I urge
punters not to be put off by a big price during the current situation as we
have seen plenty of big priced winners in recent days. I hope SEA FOX can reward each way backers at
a big price as David Evans’ charge looks weighted to strike. He is 3 from 3 in
this class and Richard Kingscote is a strong jockey booking who boasts a solid
record for Evans. A tidy draw will be useful and I just hope he is tuned up to
run well. There is no doubting Gossiping is back on a mark where he has proven
to be very dangerous in the past but at 7/4 he looks a little short.
