Walsh to partner La Bague Au Roi

  • by

  • 29 January 2020

Jockey Mark Walsh will partner La Bague Au Roi in this weekend’s Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown.

La Bague Au Roi has won four of those outings but she has not finished first in any of her last four.

She was last seen at Doncaster on December 29, finishing third as Lady Buttons won the MansionBet At Doncaster Yorkshire Silver Vase Mares’ Chase.

The nine-year-old will headline Sunday’s Grade One feature, and she is set to come up against the likes of Presenting Percy, Kemboy, Sizing John and Delta Work.

Confirming his decision to hire Walsh, trainer Wayne Greatrex told the PA news agency: “After speaking to the owners, we decided to go with an Irish-based jockey who knows the track at Leopardstown really well – and we’ve decided Mark Walsh is the man for the job.

“She (La Bague Au Roi) is in great form at home, and I couldn’t be any happier with her. The plan is to leave on Friday morning, to then give her the chance to get settled in.

“Hopefully we’ll see a big run from her.”
