Harrington targeting triple crown with Sizing John

Trainer Jessica Harrington has confirmed Cheltenham hero Sizing John will be aimed at the National Hunt Triple Crown this season.

The Gold Cup winner will look to continue a superb 12 months for Harrington as connections aim to win the £1million bonus, and he’s heavily favoured with Betfair Sports Review and Free Bets.

Any horse that wins the Betfair Chase at Haydock, the King George VI Chase at Kempton and the Gold Cup at Cheltenham will win the huge cash prize.

Only Kauto Star has won all three races since 2005, with Cue Card coming close by winning the first two events.

Sizing John won at Cheltenham, Punchestown and Leopardstown last season and Harrington is excited for this year’s plans.

She said: “This bonus is a great extra incentive and builds the season towards a crescendo for the sport.

“Ever since Sizing John won in April at Punchestown we have had the Triple Crown on our minds. Our aim is to start him off in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November.

“He looks fantastic and we are really keen to have a crack at the £1million bonus for winning the three races. It’s exciting to have a horse to run in these races.”
